Syracuse American Legion Cruise-in postponed
Syracuse American Legion Post 223 has postponed next week’s cruise-in following Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb’s announcement extending bar closings until June 14 due to COVID-19. Organizers will hold a meeting following the June reopening to decide if the event, originally planned for May 15, will be rescheduled.
Post 223 held its first cruise-in in 2019 in an effort to continue the tradition previously held the Friday before the Syracuse-Wawasee Kiwanis-sponsored Cruzin’ Cuse Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show, which ran for 30 years until 2018.
Organizers — including Legion members, Legion Riders, Sons of the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary — were pleased with the 2019 turnout, which included more than 50 vehicles and 100 spectators in spite of the threat of rain, and announced the cruise-in would become an annual event held the week before Memorial Day weekend.
Organizer Randy Rinker said he hopes this year’s cruise-in can be rescheduled, possibly for next fall.
