Louie’s Bar and Grill in Syracuse gave away 700 free meals Thursday, April 30. Vehicles started lining up well before the starting time of 4 p.m. for free meals.

The owners, Kenny and Kim Johnson, started promptly at 4 p.m. handing out the free dinners with numerous volunteers. There were approximately 30 volunteers assisting.

The meals consisted of sloppy joe sandwiches and chips.

Sponsors of the free meals were: Clint Davis Construction, RE/MAX Partners, Close Home Inspections and Davis Farms.

The drive-thru meals were for those in need or anyone who wanted one. There were 75 cars waiting in line by 4 p.m. and only 125 meals were left by 4:15 p.m.

“The community has supported us, so we are supporting them. We love being part of the community,” said Kim Johnson.

She said she started cooking last Wednesday with more than 100 pounds of meat.

While some people gladly accepted the free meals, some also donated money after receiving meals.
