Property owners breakfast reunites friends after a year

FAMILY AND FRIENDS — Many families and friends enjoyed a breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, pancakes, biscuits and fruit at the WPOA/SLA family breakfast Saturday.

Members of the Wawasee Property Owners and Syracuse Lake associations reunited after a year-long break for the WPOA/SLA family breakfast Saturday morning, June 12, at Oakwood Resort.

Booths for Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation, Women of Today, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, Syracuse-Wawasee Trails and Wawasee Flotilla greeted members when they arrived. These booths provided information, free giveaways and merchandise to purchase.

Friends of the Syracuse Library displayed finished paddles, painted by local artists, as part of its silent auction project. The breakfast was the beginning of the silent auction that will continue through August.

A DELIGHT TO MANY — Dallas Kinney shows his mom, Zoe White, what balloon he wants from Ken’s Balloons during the breakfast. The creations from Ken’s Balloons is always a hit at the breakfast.

Turkey Creek Fire Territory was also present with trucks and equipment on display outside the hotel. Firemen’s hats and coloring books were available for the youngsters.Missing this year — and a disappointment to many — was the ladder truck. Yearly young and young at heart took the opportunity to get in the bucket and get a birds-eye view of the area. Fire Chief Mickey Scott stated the truck had recently been put out of service due to a small hydraulic leak. It is now being repaired.

However, those wanting to give it a try could become a firefighter for a brief moment and handle a fire hose.

During the breakfast, the guests took time to get reacquainted with neighbors and make new friends. John Earnest, SLA president, and Kay Young, WPOA president, were both on hand to greet guests.

Many attended the breakfast before heading across the drive to the Chautauqua-Wawasee Art Festival or out onto the floating pier to view the display of wooden boats.
