Many sign conservancy petition at annual breakfast

Close to 100 signatures were obtained for the formation of Turkey Creek Dam and Dike Conservancy at the annual Wawasee Property Owners Association and Syracuse Lake Association annual breakfast Saturday morning. This was the first public event for freeholders to sign the petition.

Bill Pipp, WPOA representative on a committee to find funding to repair the water control device, stated a meeting was held Friday with two town council members relating to ownership of the water control device. Pipp said new information (documents) was provided to the town council members, which reportedly will result in an executive session of the Syracuse Town Council being called Wednesday, June 26. Pipp stated this new information will clear up some misconceptions and allow the town and committee to move forward.

Guests at the breakfast also had the opportunity to learn about the progress on the Syracuse-Wawasee Trails, latest happenings with the Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation, place a bid on an artist decorated chair as a fundraiser for the Friends of the Library, purchase prints to benefit the trails from the Water Lily, sign up for WACF canoe trips, purchase Flotilla attire and take a look at Turkey Creek Fire Territory equipment.

Approximately 250 members of both associations attended the event held at Oakwood Resort.
