Names added to WACF Eli Lilly Lifetime Founders Society

By Deb PattersonStaff WriterSix new names were added Friday evening, Aug. 24, to the Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation’s Eli Lilly Lifetime Founders Society. Names added to the society’s wall are those of Dave and Susie Brandes, James and Sally Hubbard and Jay and Jane Jorgensen.Dave Brandes has been a part of the foundation for many years, serving on the WACF board, for two complete nine-year terms. “You are the history now of this organization,” stated Terry Clapacs, WACF treasurer, who introduced those being added to the wall. Dr. Joan Szynal, WACF board president, noted the Brandes have a passion for the organization with Dave Brandes being a “true leader for many years. Without people like you, we could not fulfill our mission.”Clapacs noted the Jorgensens haven’t been “here as long as David has, but very quickly (Jay) made his mark. He is a conservationist,” Clapacs said, adding Jorgensen is also a member of the board. “Both are great philanthropists and do work all over the state.” Szynal stated their contribution has been “amazing with this organization and we look forward to more years working with you.”The Hubbards were unable to attend and will be recognized in 2019.“It’s all together fitting and proper we reserve the highest honor at WACF in the name of Eli Lilly,” said Clapacs. “For all of those 92 years of life, Lake Wawasee was an important part of his living,” he said, noting Lilly was a conservationist of the first rank and anthropologist, noting a few of Lilly’s accomplishments. “Most of his works preferred to go without notice and recognition.Recognition was also given to other members of the society who were present. These included Harriett Inskeep, Jim and Barbara Brumbaugh, Mark and Cindy Deister, The Herdrich family - Bill and Debbie, Bob and Tammy, Jeff and Carrie and Jerry and Jan Hackleman Rae and George Hardie.
