Wawasee Kiwanis to host annual triathlon, 5K

(File photo by James Costello)Wawasee Kiwanis Club will host its 11th annual sprint triathlon and 5K run/walk Saturday, Aug. 11.The event, which will benefit local charities, is scheduled to start at 8 a.m. at the Syracuse Community Center. Pedals & Paddles from North Webster will be on site providing bike inspections, and Dr. Myers from Dynamic Spine in Syracuse will be available to the athletes for soft tissue therapy. All participants will receive a medal, and food is provided after the race.The sprint triathlon is a USAT-sanctioned event, starting with a quarter-mile swim in Syracuse Lake, followed by a 13.49-mile bike ride on a mostly flat, fast course after some early rolling hills. The triathlon concludes with a 3.1 mile-run containing a few gradual hills, and one quick, steep ascent.Cost for the triathlon is $52 for USAT members and $67 for non-USAT members. Cost for the 5K run/walk is $20. There are also team rates available for the triathlon.
