Centurion robotics team places third in the world

(Photo provided)Centurion consisting of juniors Joe Kelsheimer, Nick Murphy, Micah Rassi and freshman Evan Rassi finished third in the world in the skills challenge at the VEX Robotics World Championships in Louisville, which concluded Saturday, April 28.The team was given three chances to run programming skills time trials and the same for driving skills. The Rassis drove a score of 120, one of the highest scores in the world. In the last hour of the qualification for the skills challenge finals the team was able to score 92 points in the programming skills challenge, earning their spot to compete in front of 853 teams in Freedom Hall at the Kentucky Exposition Center.The team also competed in the regular tournament and was ranked 16th out of 96 teams in its division. They partnered with the ninth ranked team from Connecticut and made it out of the Sweet 16 by beating teams from Connecticut and Ontario, Canada, but were eliminated in the quarterfinals by the number one ranked teams from Maryland and California.Valkyrie consisting of freshmen Taylor Fiedeke, Vanessa Wright, Noah Beckner, Wesley Hays, Nathan Smith, Allison Cole and sophomore Jack Collins finished their qualifying rounds with a record of 3-7.
