What Waco as in Waco Drive stood for?

SOMEONE ASKED Cruzin’ not too long ago what Waco as in Waco Drive stood for. It kind of took me by surprise, just assuming everyone knew about Waco Dance Hall and beach. Waco stands for Wawasee Amusement Company. Time flies and memories fade.  Built as an attraction in the 1920s it had live dance bands into the 1960s. It was comparable to Tippy Dance Hall and all the nationally known big bands and rock n’ roll bands played there. Several homes now occupy the space where it was on Waco Drive before you get to the curve. It became a hit because the area become more of a resort when the lakes were deepened for motor boats, which attracted more families. Previously, hunters and fishermen were the main tourists although the railroad brought in folks from Chicago and Indianapolis too.
