Wawasee freshmen learn ecological principles about the watershed

Freshmen rafters heading back to home base after an exhausting but exhilarating time on the rafts! Photo by Kim NguyenWawasee freshmen are being treated to a day out of school to learn some ecological principles about the watershed and wetlands. Students did water testing, identified plants and wildlife, learned about lake formation, stratification, values of wetlands, and much more. Students learned the consequences of everyday actions by building a community within a watershed and adding ordinary pollutants. At the conclusion of the raft trip students competed in a trivial pursuit game. Winners received gift cards to McDonalds. This is the first year the WACF has offered this event and they hope to be able to continue this annually. Indiana state police, conservation officers and lake patrol volunteered their time to help make the trip successful. Teachers, administrators and other interested adults assisted in the rafts.
