A Solemn Sunset

A SOLEMN SUNSET - Although Christie Witmer, pictured, enjoyed this sunset on Lake Wawasee last week, she said the circumstances for her being there were not good. Witmer prefers to kayak on local rivers -Ä the Elkhart River and Tippecanoe River being her favorites but the water levels are too low because of the drought."In some places, I can only paddle half a mile in each direction before it gets too shallow," she said.Although recent rainfall has helped, it has not reversed the effects of the drought. In fact, water levels across Kosciusko County are so low the Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation has canceled its weekly canoe trips until further notice.
