While the state of Indiana may be on lock down until at least the end of April, Chautauqua-Wawasee is looking forward to better days ahead while preparing a variety of programming for May and June.

“CBD: Pros & Cons” will be offered from 6:30-7:30 p.m. May 12 at the Oakwood Resort. Chautauqua-Wawasee and Parkview Health are jointly sponsoring this presentation and discussion on cannabidiol. Jeannette Cochran, Parkview Physicians Group, Mind Body Medicine, will discuss how CBD is being used to treat a wide array of medical issues.

However, questions remain regarding its safety and effectiveness. There are also many products out there yet CBD isn’t regulated. This event is open to the public and admission is free.

The Lake Wawasee, then & now historic cruise will be held from 2-4 p.m. May 21. This event was very successful last year and is back by popular demand. Local historian Ann Garceau of the Syracuse-Wawasee Historical Museum will be the guide on the cruise.

Garceau shares interesting stories about historic structures that stood around the lake. Participants will be able to better visualize them with the aide of a provided pamphlet, “Then & Now,” picturing what people are hearing about while enjoying what has been built there now. Garceau highlights numerous hotels, marinas, entertainment venues, neighborhoods and historic homes.

The cruise will be on the Lillypad, with tickets limited to 110, as many as the boat can safely hold. Tickets are $25 and are on sale at www.chqw.org or www.facebook.com/ChautauquaWawasee/.

The sixth annual Oakwood Fine Arts Festival is still scheduled for June 13 with more than 30 local and regional artists featured in a family friendly environment. The festival will be held outdoors in the park at Oakwood Resort. There will also be musical entertainment as well.

Food vendors will be on site for snacks and lunch with seating available. Also the Oakwood Inn’s restaurant will offer a full menu with both indoor and outdoor seating. 

The Wawasee Wooden Boat Show will be held the same day at the Oakwood Inn piers. The boat show will feature more than 30 classic woodies on display. Admission to both events is free and ample parking is available.

A community favorite, the Patriotic Pops Concert, featuring the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra Pops will be held on the shores of Lake Wawasee and lawn at Oakwood Resort, June 28. Come by boat, car, bike or walk. Rain location will be Wawasee High School. Admission is free.
