Road race, flotilla, fireworks set

Plans are in the works by several organizations for a busy Saturday, July 4, in Syracuse.

Starting the day’s activities is the Flotilla Road Race at 8 a.m. followed by the 59th Wawasee Flotilla.

This year’s theme will be patriotic with entries not just limited to decorated boats. The Wawasee Flotilla also includes prizes for those entering theme decorated homes and/or piers. The decorated boats will leave from the Spink Condominium at 12:30 p.m. and head counterclockwise around the lake.

The day will end with a second night of fireworks. Syracuse Fireworks will be held Friday, July 3, with the annual Wawasee Fireworks show July 4.

Wawasee Property Owners Association is actively planning the largest ever fireworks show for 2020 and currently seeking donation assistance to meet this goal now. The sooner the goal is met the earlier organizers can make the plans a reality.

A multi-location launch site again will dramatically improve the visual effect of the Lake Wawasee fireworks celebration. It was in 2019 WPOA increased the number of barges in its fleet from eight to 10, adding two new heavy-duty barges. The growth in floating square feet supports separating the barges into three clusters to form an elongated launch site on the water. The multi-location configuration improves the reliability of the show, increase safety and significantly enhance the visual effects of this annual Independence Day celebration.

This display is made possible through annual donations to the WPOA non-profit fireworks fund where the average donation received is $127. All firework fund donations are 100 percent tax-deductible.
