WPOA supports the community in many ways

Wawasee Property Owners Association is a large part of the lakes community and a supporter of a number of programs and organizations.The organization supports the Syracuse-Wawasee Trails, is a participant in the Syracuse Lake Control Structure, the sheriff’s lake patrol manned by volunteers promoting safety on the lakes, hosts an annual breakfast in conjunction with Syracuse Lake Association and hosts the annual fireworks display on Lake Wawasee during the Fourth of July.WPOA seeks to keep lake activities safe, as well as fun. Its members work closely with DNR and sheriff’s office officials to encourage boating safety and work closely with Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation and the Watershed Task Force to keep water safe.The WPOA was instrumental in acquiring the severe weather warning systems, tested the first Saturday of each month and supports the local fire territory in its endeavors to protect property and lives of residents. Directors work hand in hand with additional organizations for the betterment of the lake area.Funds are raised for the Syracuse-Wawasee Trails through the sale of art work.In addition to WPOA’s community involvement, the organization offers the WPOA-David F. Lichtenauer Memorial Scholarship Fund through the Kosciusko County Community Foundation, to a graduating senior at Wawasee High School, based on academics and community service.Anyone is welcome to attend the WPOA board meetings. Guests and members are invited to express their thoughts and concerns. Meetings are ordinarily held at the WACF Educational Center. This summer’s meeting schedule will be 9 a.m. June 8, July 13, Aug. 10 and Sept. 14.The WPOA annual breakfast will be from 7:30 to 10 a.m. June 22 at Oakwood Resort. This year’s fireworks show will be Saturday, July 6.The annual dinner meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, aboard the SS Lilly Pad.Kay Young, WPOA president, oversees the board of directors in which members are involved in legislative issues, orderly development, water quality, lake patrol, communications and more.Find out more about the WPOA and the various activities it supports by visiting www.wawaseepoa.org.
